Know your Status – Get Documented

You are a SA citizen by birth in terms of section 2(1) of the SA Citizenship Act.

You have the right to have an identity (ID) number which you should find on your birth certificate. You also have the right to an identity document (ID) which is a card you get from your nearest Home Affairs office once you turn 16 years of age. If you are having trouble getting these documents, contact us.

(Note: If you are an adopted child, you are a citizen in terms of section 3 of the SA Citizenship Act.)
