About the Child Law Moot Court Competition

The Child Law Moot Court Competition has a rich history of fostering legal expertise and advocacy in the realm of child rights. Since its inception, this competition has served as a platform for law students across South Africa to explore the intricate complexities of child law and advocate for the best interests and welfare of children. Over the years, it has gained recognition, attracting top legal minds and providing a forum for innovative legal arguments and solutions to pressing issues that affect children in our society. With each passing year, the competition continues to evolve, reflecting the changing landscape of child law and reinforcing its crucial role in shaping the future of child law in South Africa.

Theme

This year’s moot court theme is based on care and protection, looking at the legality of providing devices or mechanisms for the safe relinquishment of infants, known as ‘Baby Saver Boxes,’ under the Children’s Act of 2005 and international law.
